"Fuss water spirit" - This is so... beautiful! The color work is so soft and smooth, and it's very lovely and striking. I love the gentle feel and design this has overall. First of all the shading on the skin is done to perfection, it's not too intense, 'just gentle enough for the look *Taken-by-dragons was going for here, and just the little highlights here and there really bring out dimension to the character and define its form well and what I think really completes the work of the skin is the settle texture she created on it which makes the character feel amphibious. What I think is very amazing is because of that, you don't even have to read the title or the comments and you can understand this creature is water-based. Now for my favorite part, the eyes! Those are one of the most beautifully colored eyes I've seen on a creature on Deviantart so far. They're so deep and full of life, I love the hues of violet and blue in them, and being surrounded by a darker sclera, they even seem to glow. 'Seriously gorgeous, I very much admire everything from the creatures design (I love those big ears) to to every little shading and highlight detail. It is seriously lovely to look at. I also like how the image is bordered, it makes the whole more appealing.
"Sweet Child of mine" - This one artwork here is intensely beautiful in both imagery and symbolism. This is scary because I love it in every way possible.
"Minori Dragon RefSheet" - This has been on :devtaken-by-dragon:'s account for quite a while, but it still amazes me just how well it was put together. This is a reference page of an original dragon species created by the artist, and this sheet not only gives you clear visuals, but some very detailed descriptions of what these creatures are and how they function. I love the smooth line work and coloring on the dragons, and especially the colored one in the bottom right corner which is a Minori original character of hers also which is a good example of how color placement might work on these creatures. There's much features distinguishing the males from the females in the growing process which I think is pretty intriguing. The way she did the diagram in the top right corner really gives a clear visual on the proportions of the dragon species and I think that the list next to it of heights and lengths relating to the age of the dragon is a very helpful detail. I also like how although dragons are already existent in mythology, she made her dragon species completely unique and her own by adding unique features such as having those interestingly shaped spinal plates extruding from their backs, their paws and mammal-like ears as well as having a peculiar way of how their horns shape. This is probably the most original dragon species I've seen someone make on Deviantart so far, they're very beautiful.
"Fly in color" - What is this?? Craziness, this image really does have flying colors. It's got to be my favorite of =SoulStarisborn's gallery, the colors attracted me right away. The placement of the subjects was so good and then I was blown away by the motion displayed, it's a very much alive image. More so there's so much to look at, your eyes just wonder all around it from the ground with the cow up the the crazily lit sky. I love the perspective shot, the windmills are shockingly beautiful and lastly the intense shadows create great depth. He even used his light source correctly!! It's not just the style that's wild, but also the composition which is very well put together. On a side note, the picture is of children flying in their pajamas, but the first thing that came to me in my head when I saw it was: Zombie Peter Pan. 8D This is fun stuff.
"Azura" - Maybe it's the intense light, but I found this to be very striking and beautiful. What I like most about =SoulStarisborn's work is the psychedelic touch he adds to it. The form is very well defined in this image with the use of hard shadowing, and the way the brush strokes are I can image the figure and her cloak being in motion. I think the pose looks great and what I especially like, which I think did the image much justice with using the strong lights and shadows, is that he also used a limited color pallet, it's almost monochromatic. All that and the angle its on, I think not just the character, but the image in general is very powerful.
"SoulStar" - ANOTHER TRIP!! I love this person's crazy painterly style, woo. The angle is fantastic for one and in general we can safely say this person knows good composition. I really admire how everything in this image is not defined by lines, but by shape and again there's the illusion of so much movement with the crazy brush strokes which work very well for this image. I'm especially attracted the the lighting, the buildings and the general color pallet and also how he has it set up with the greens and bright yellows placed in the background and the cooler blues placed in the foreground. Usually your eyes are drawn straight to the warmer colors but this is set up so well that the first thing you see is the figure and then your vision just goes everywhere to the psychedelic lighting and shapes making up buildings and defining a sky. A also in general really like the character there, his costume design is spiffy and you can tell by the way he's angled and posed that he's a powerhouse.
"Unchained" - I'm not sure if it was the design of the beast, the color coordination, or the layout of the image that attracted me first. Either way, they're all great and well put together. There is in fact something I love near as much as 'expression' in an image, and that's design. The image itself is very balanced, I like how she curled the tail there around to even out the weight of the image. I'm not sure if that design technique was intentional or not, but it was successful and looks good. I love the design, it's very wild and the beast looks like a very vicious one. I like how crazed the hair/fur is on the beast, it brings life and movement into the figure and the color design of it is also attractive. None of the neutral colors she chose look off with one another and I think the fact that the eye is a different tone from the rest of the body and bares a faint gleam that it gives character and life to the beast. And of course that wide open maw with sharp bared teeth does just the same...
"Lethal Elegance" - Huzzah, design! I love it. I also think the title chosen fits perfectly for this image. What I find intriguing about this image is that it looks so simple, but the more you look at it, the more you find. Like when I first seen this image in =Liadeia's gallery I seen a 'very fancily dressed man with great hair styling' and as I looked at it more I seen settle textures and the scarf coming up behind him as a scorpion tail... that is a pretty spiffy concept there... 'Definitely deadly and enticingly so. Man... did I mention I LOVE his hair?? I also admire how she pulled this image off so successfully using such limited colors and no shading, it's very beautiful and interesting to look at.
"Nigel Blaze" - Well I have to admit, it was difficult to choose a third piece of artwork from this person's gallery because there's just so many nice works. Well I eventually had to choose this because the color job is absolutely amazing and I love how well the settle textures and shading work with that crisp clean line art. The style and technique is so smooth and elegant and the detail is also very clean. I am attracted to how the hair flows and the textures that define it and more so, those razor claws sprouting from his knuckles!! That's badass. I like how purely colored and simple the blood is on all this character's blades, I think if the blood were shaded it would blend in too much with the other details. So once again, kudos for great design in technique. Also the anatomy looks great and I think the colors blend well all together, nothing is too distracting so you can taste the whole of the character all at once. Yum.
":Cold Front: Tangorith" - Tangorith! A character that's going to be a part of our role play 'Cold Front' that *Lykourgos-Kreios and I are currently playing out and I must say I seriously didn't expect such a badass design. This is definitely different from any other male character *Lykourgos-Kreios has designed and I am in love with it. First! I love the rugged look and feel of this guy, you can tell he's been through hell and back. His eyes are so cold and empty and I really like that design coming from his one eye, it makes his appearance even more grim. It's also obvious this guy doesn't have a very warming presence and probably is out for blood. I like the neutral color scheme and the general design of his clothing tells a little bit of his back story.
":Cold Front: Lurianni" - This is simply beautiful. The character is the mother of *Lykourgos-Kreios's persona, 'Krio'. I love the elegance of her design and the color tones are so settle and well distributed throughout the character for interesting design. The details in her armor and clothing are so lovely and I really like her facial complexion, she really looks like a wise (and she is) and strong woman whom has passed through many life experiences both in hardships and in good memories.
":WIP for B-L:" - I realize this image is a 'work in progress', but I think it could be considered finished, it is beautiful and romantic.
"Dexter" - This portrait of Michael C. Hall is really a work of fine art. The proportions are amazing. The artist pulled off the realism with this quite well. I love the placement of the highlights and the shading and especially how he worked in general with the light source there. The eyes are very powerful and along with what looks to me like a devious grin really gives the person a lot of character. The work with acrylics is amazing and the brush strokes aren't to rough and work very well actually. I very much envy both the talent and the patience this artist has.
"Hands" - Again with the fine arts, ~TimYates does so well with realism. I both love the technique and the symbolism of this drawing. The high contrast makes this image very powerful and is especially effective with the pitch black surrounding the forms. At the same time I really like how natural this looks and it really is beautiful and warming with the child's hand gripping onto the adult's. I like the concept in general.
"Immortal invasion 2" - This is wild! I absolutely love the inking on this, he defined everything in the image so well with the thick and thin use of lines as well as inking some intense shadows with a mix of hatching, it all just blends so perfectly. It's a powerful image not only with the intense contrast, but also the perspective, the angle, and all the movement with the waves and the flames, there's so much going on that it's insane, but enticingly so! I like how the light and dark areas are evened out throughout the piece so that your eye catches everything and that there's action happening in the background as well as the foreground (you'll notice a man being thrown from that castle there). 'Not to even get me started on the jaw dropping detail such as the men's armor and the texture of the hilt on that sword. It's also inspiring, I want to do comics with badass angles now.
"Trolley Dollies" - This was a collaboration animation project, but it was much too fun to watch. It's actually almost creepy... I like that the animation is pretty smooth and that it's all well coordinated. The timing is just what I like most, one character will have motion and another won't so your attention is focused there, aside from the air hostesses, that plus how everything works with the environment, I do really like how the plane was modeled and animated in itself. I'm studying animation at my school so it was fun seeing how they did different things, and I think After Effects did wonders for this, I like the constant camera movement on plane of zooming in and out, it's really like going for a ride until they hit the sea. I in general much enjoyed watching the passengers get beat up, what's not fun about that? lol @ guy hitting his head and causing the baggage to crush the other. Fun stuff.
"Cat Hugs" - Omg, anyone who has a cat can relate to this! It's exaggerated a little of course, but yeah that's pretty much kitty love for ya. I love this guy's style, it's so vector, but is loaded with character. The character is suppose to be him, and I love the expression on his face as the cat is ripping it off, it makes complete sense and is very amusing, and then I like the cat's expression like "Why don't you love me?!". I also disagree with =RadSavij's first tag line, cats do miss you a whole lot and long time.
"Podracer" - Pod racer!!! I'm not a Star Wars fan particularly (please don't spear me), but I use to have a lot of fun racing them in video games, and I love how they're designed. Her's particularly is a unique design, I like the round organic forms of it and the choice of colors. It's a very consistent tone that she went with, 'nothing too blinding and I really like the angle she picked because it not only let's your eyes see most of the fine details of the pod racer but it also makes the composition more interesting. I think what completed this image is the motion blurred background, it gives you the illusion that this racer is zooming across a terrain which I think is an awesome effect. I think this artist should do more three dimensional work because she's definitely skilled at it.
"Elven Woman 2" - Well what can I say? This is lovely and I love elves, so woo. I actually really like the color design with this, the reddish shades sided with yellow coloring here and there, it fits nicely. I think the glowing marking on the elf's eye makes the character look more appealing and I like how her outfit is designed. Even though you can only see a little part of it, it's got a very exotic and elegant look. The trippy liquefied background definitely enhances the look of the figure and the general feel of the portrait.
"Blue Dragon" - This is actually my favorite from ~AtalantaAsahoshi's gallery. I love how she did the colors, tones and shading to create depth with this creature. I also like how she added a little texture atop of the coloring to give the dragon a scaly feel and make its look more believable. In general, I just really admire the tones she selected, they're very tranquil and it adds beauty to the beast.
"SaturdaySketch-ZombieSuperman" - First, it's an honor to feature someone so advanced in their art, this guy is seriously insane. He specializes in graphic novel art and he does it with perfection. I especially like this piece and not because I'm a zombie fan... Well, I do love zombies, but besides the point, this is zombie 'SUPERMAN'!! How awesome is that?! Everything especially the figure in the image is very well drawn and I like the concept of the guy creeping out of the grave. The way he has the image angled makes the character look foreboding and the menacing look on the character's face really enhances that feel ALONG with those intense shadows which are placed perfectly placed for the mood in my eyes by the way. I think the simplified city in the background is neat and you can tell without there being any words that it's Superman's city because of that suggestion of the Daily Planet building. And the fact that he kept the background simplified to keep focus on the detail in the foreground makes great composition, and the detail on the figure is just insane with the shine on the armor and decaying of the skin. What ~Damien-Eldridge calls 'sketches' are mind blowing.
"Saturday Sketch-Blue Beetle" - The design and detail of this character is freaking insane. I love the dynamic angle and pose as well as the determined expression on the character's face. What I think adds the most character and life to the "Blue Beetle" is the hands. I think it's amazing how he posed the one to the left, just that one detail of the figure holds so much power. The general detail of the costume, especially in the torso region is very intense, I love the cell shading bringing dimension to the form and not just how well defined the muscle structure is on that torso but how the artist also managed to put all that clean fine detail in perfect perspective. This guy will definitely be doing the comics you read in the future, and with amazing quality!
"The Ram- SPARROW Character" - The first commenter on this was right, ~Damien-Eldridge never disappoints with the quality of his work. The detail work and pose on this is extremely well done. I'm in love with how he did the muscles in the arms and in the torso of this character and the running pose is very believable and pulled off so well from the angle chosen. I also like the general costume design, especially the character's shoes and studded shoulder plates, his overall look is badassery. I also think it's amazing how the clothing is placed in sync with how the character would be moving and the expression is great. Even miner details like the chain and hairs on his chin are so cleanly and perfectly defined. This artist has such a keen eye for detail which I very much admire.
"Dead Baby Doppelgangers" - I don't just love this artist's wacky style, but I also really like his weird-ass character designs.
"Finally Got EEET" - Another crazy character design from this artist which amuses me to no end. There was bound to be a wormy super heroine at one point and this is the guy for it. I love the costume and the color choices, it's so outrageous, but fits perfectly for who the character is. I particularly like this reference sheet because it is so clear on the idea of this guy and the reference image itself shows the full form and bares unique personality. I like the cooky expression and the way the guy's arms are so weirdly shape which again fits perfectly with the character. I also like the idea of him being an 'honorary citizen of Amsterdam', that's great. Seriously. 'I can't imagine what things he must've done there, and his weakness is also random and amusing. The idea of this character is a whole lot of fun.
"Lord Wormm - SW -3" - Wow I took an ungodly long time trying to find a third image to feature of ~Lordwormm's artwork considering the majority of his artwork amuses me. Well I picked this one which is part of a sequence of images because the scenario made me chuckle. Again I love the wacky character designs and I most admire how none of ~Lordwormm's character designs look the same, they each have dramatically different physical features. That guy to the right has a very crazy creepy design, I really think that would give children nightmares, and I love that idea.
"Spyro - Complete." - This is still gorgeous to me after so long. I not only like the character, but I really like ~Lady13LAZE's stylization of him and more so the lighting. I really like the vibrant purple on the dragon's skin and particularly the light reflection on the creature's body. That really enhances the general look and I like the way she used the light source from the pixie there by having the majority of the light reflecting on the dragon's nose where the pixie is floating near, that is accurate and it looks great. The color chosen for the sky justifies the figure in the foreground as well, she did very good in making this image work.
"Random Deliciousness." - This is my favorite of ~Lady13LAZE's gallery. I'm amazed with how she drew the form, the anatomy looks great and I also really REALLY like how she did the figure's hair. It looks absolutely gorgeous, and lays so naturally. The shading and highlights with it look great and give the hair such depth. The soft violet tones she used to shade the skin I think really justify the definition of the figure and makes the man look divine against the maroon colored background. The hands look amazingly good too, especially that one to the right, and I love the pose. I think she outdid herself on this one.
"Lillith and Giselle Cosplay." - I mainly like this image because of the colors and remarkable digital paint job. The poses look absolutely great for one an I like both of their curvy womanly figures. I like too how the tones throughout are consistent on them both, one color isn't too warm while another is too cool - they blend quite well. I also really admire the personalities being portrayed in each. The second figure has a very sexy and erotic persona while the other doesn't look very amused. I think The first one's hand there is really well drawn. I like to point out good hand drawings because they're that one part of the human form that is difficult to make look right and it just adds so much to an image when they are done correctly. So kudos to the artist there. The paint strokes look very good and smooth and I like the limited use of highlights to bring out the first character's form a little more. These two are in general very nicely drawn.
